Request for Information No. RFI-2017-VM-016
Metrolinx is accepting Requests for Information (RFI) for PRESTO Mobile Inspection Devices.
Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario under the Metrolinx Act, 2006, was created to improve the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (“GTHA”).
The organization’s mission is to champion, develop and implement an integrated transportation system for our region that enhances prosperity, sustainability and quality of life.
Metrolinx presently operates GO Transit, Union Pearson Express (UPX), and PRESTO and is overseeing the Rapid Transit Implementation (RTI) and Regional Express Rail (RER) initiatives.
PRESTO is an automated fare collection system that allows customers, using a single contactless fare card, to access eleven (11) transit systems in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that provide multiple modes of transit (e.g. buses, subways, trains).
The PRESTO card is intended to help increase transit ridership and operational efficiency, improve the customer experience, and support the ever increasing demand for intra and inter regional transit integration through the use of a single fare medium.
The Enterprise Mobile Apps (EMApps) project involves the utilization of mobile devices to offer full PRESTO functionality. This includes fare payment and fare inspection functionality as well as the ability to query a PRESTO card and/or load funds to a card.
In the future, these devices will also have the capability of accepting credit/debit payments for fares as well as the ability to inspect these cards to validate fare payment.
The purpose of this RFI is to improve Metrolinx’s understanding of the current and future market on the availability and future supply of mobile devices that can meet PRESTO’s inspection service requirements.
